Hunting in the Gila Wilderness in Western New Mexico. The Gila
(pronounced heela) was the first designated wilderness area in the
United States and once you visit here it is easy to understand why. The
Gila takes in about 3 million acres and has some of the most spectacular
scenery of anywhere. From the sky high mountains to the deep rocky
canyons this is a great area to hunt. More famous for its Elk hunting, the
Gila is without a doubt the most remote place in the lower 48 states, and
I feel very lucky to live and run my hunting business here. I spend
nearly all my time hunting one species or another. If you look at a map I
am about 50 miles North of Silver City on the East fork of the Gila River.
As for all my hunts
everything is included,
good hot meals,
comfortable beds, hot
showers and care of you
and your trophy. I have a
big ranch house right
where we hunt from. It was
built in the early 1900's by
a band of outlaws and it
makes for a very
memorable hunting camp.
The accommodations will either be a wall tent camp or a hotel near the
hunting area. We recommend and use motel 6.
